Problem

Flight delays and cancellation impact passengers

Flight delays impact passengers, airlines, and economy. Causes: weather, air traffic, maintenance. US stats: ~20% flights delayed (2019). Goal: predict delays accurately.

Solution

Multi-faceted UX design and data analysis project intended to mitigate the frustrations and operational inefficiencies caused by flight delays

Interactive Tableau Delay Dashboard: A primary deliverable is an interactive dashboard that visualizes flight data to help users understand delay patterns. This includes geographical maps showing airport locations and flight volumes, as well as bar charts and scatter plots that analyse delay status by origin and destination.

Real-time Notification System: The project requirements specify the integration of web services to provide real-time flight status notifications, ensuring that users are kept up-to-date as changes occur.

User-Centric UI/UX Design: The solution features an intuitive user interface developed through a structured research workflow—including empathizing with users, ideating solutions, and conducting usability tests. This design is tailored to meet the specific needs of two distinct groups:

Frequent Flyers: Providing them with the quick, real-time information necessary to manage their schedules.

Airline Staff: Offering data-driven insights to assist in making informed decisions regarding flight schedules and staffing.

Delay Impact Analysis: Beyond just tracking delays, the solution includes a detailed analysis of the economic and operational impact of these delays, helping stakeholders understand the "knock-on" effects of late-arriving aircraft and the financial losses associated with fuel and time
